Land Tax

Land Tax was originally introduced in the 1994 Legends expansion as a powerful enchantment designed to provide white decks with consistent land ramp and card thinning. Over the decades, it became a cornerstone of the Magic: The Gathering competitive landscape, prized for its ability to balance the resource disparity between players in multiplayer formats. The Secrets of Strixhaven Commander release, from which this specific version originates, reimagined the classic card within the scholarly, academic aesthetic of the Strixhaven University setting.

This particular printing features updated art that aligns with the mystical, collegiate theme of the Strixhaven set. By integrating the card into the Commander collection, Wizards of the Coast sought to make this high-demand utility card more accessible to a modern audience while honoring its mechanical legacy. The design process focused on maintaining the clarity of the original effect while updating the visual language to reflect the high-fantasy, campus-based iconography central to the Strixhaven narrative arc.
