Land Tax

Land Tax was originally printed in the 1994 Legends set as a rare enchantment, quickly becoming a staple in competitive Magic: The Gathering due to its ability to thin the deck and ensure land drops. Its design, rooted in early game mechanics that rewarded players for falling behind, made it a defining card of its era. Decades later, Wizards of the Coast included it in the Enchanting Tales bonus sheet for the 2023 Wilds of Eldraine set, reimagining it with new art to fit the fairytale aesthetic of the expansion.

The Enchanting Tales version of Land Tax features artwork by Johannes Voss, who utilized the set's signature storybook illustration style to depict the card's function through a whimsical, folklore-inspired lens. This specific printing was well-received by the player base for combining a high-utility, legacy-defining effect with art that departed significantly from the card's stark, utilitarian origins, cementing its place as a desirable collector's piece within the modern frame.
