The Library of Leng was originally released as part of the Alpha and Beta sets for Magic: The Gathering in 1993, designed by Richard Garfield. It was created as an artifact that allows a player to bypass the discard penalty of certain spells by placing discarded cards on top of their library instead of the graveyard.
