Provenance

Where it came from

Lightning Greaves first debuted in the 2003 Magic: The Gathering set Mirrodin, designed as an equipment card that grants the equipped creature haste and shroud. The card became a staple in the Commander format due to its ability to protect key creatures from targeted removal while allowing them to attack immediately, cementing its status as an essential utility piece in many deck-building strategies.

This specific iteration originates from a 2022 Secret Lair drop titled Showcase: Streets of New Capenna. The design features a stylized, art-deco aesthetic consistent with the plane of New Capenna, moving away from the industrial, metal-heavy look of the original artifact to reflect the opulent and crime-syndicate-themed nature of the setting. It was received as a sought-after collectible due to its unique visual departure from the base card version.
