The Myr token was released in 2017 as part of the Duel Decks: Elves vs. Inventors product, a standalone boxed set designed to pit two iconic Magic: The Gathering archetypes against one another. Within the Inventors deck, which focused on the artifact-heavy themes of the Mirrodin block, this token serves as a physical representation of the small, autonomous constructs frequently created by spells and abilities. It was issued to provide players with a consistent visual reference for gameplay interactions during the set's themed matches.

The artwork was commissioned from illustrator Ryan Pancoast, known for his work across many Magic sets, who aimed to capture the sleek, functional aesthetic of the classic Myr race. Pancoast’s design emphasizes the creature's utilitarian metal chassis and spindly limbs, aligning with the established lore of these constructs as humble, multi-purpose denizens of the plane of Mirrodin.
