Where it came from
Parallax Wave was originally released in the 2000 Nemesis expansion for Magic: The Gathering, designed by Mark Rosewater. It was mechanically innovative for its use of fading counters, which required players to sacrifice the enchantment after a set number of turns, balancing its powerful ability to temporarily exile any number of creatures from the battlefield.
The specific version released in the 2000 World Championship Decks was a direct reprint of the card as it appeared in the sideboard of Jon Finkel’s winning deck from the 2000 World Championship. These gold-bordered, non-tournament-legal cards were produced to allow players to experience and study the exact configurations used by top-tier professionals during that year's competitive circuit.
