Paralyze

The Paralyze card from the Summer Magic set, also known as the Edgar set, occupies a unique place in the history of Magic: The Gathering. Released in 1994, this set was produced as a corrective measure following the controversial print quality and card back color issues found in the original Revised Edition. It was distributed primarily in the Spanish market, featuring a distinct, vibrant card back that distinguishes it from other contemporary printings.

The design of Paralyze features illustration by Dameon Willich, who contributed numerous pieces to the game’s early sets. The artwork captures the thematic essence of the card's function—incapacitation through magical restraint—using a minimalist, dark aesthetic consistent with the visual language of early black-mana spells. While initially viewed as a niche variant, the set has gained significant status among collectors due to its scarcity and the fascinating circumstances surrounding its production as a mid-nineties printing anomaly.
