The Summer Magic set, colloquially known as the Edgar set, was produced in 1994 as a limited regional release for the Mexican market. These cards were distributed exclusively through the Mexican distributor Edgar in an attempt to gauge interest in the game within the region. Because the print run was significantly smaller and the distribution more localized than the standard Revised Edition, these cards have become some of the most sought-after rarities for high-end Magic: The Gathering collectors.

While the card art for the basic lands in this set is identical to that found in the Revised Edition—originally created by various artists to establish the foundational aesthetic of the game's five colors—the Summer Magic cards are distinguished by their uniquely vibrant, saturated print quality. The printing process corrected several errors found in previous iterations and introduced a distinct sheen to the card stock, which was met with intrigue by the community once the cards gained widespread recognition as distinct from their standard counterparts.
