Where it came from
Parasitic Impetus was released in 2021 as part of the Commander 2021 expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It appeared specifically in the 'Lorehold Legacies' preconstructed deck, which drew inspiration from the Silverquill and Lorehold colleges of the Strixhaven: School of Mages set. The card was designed to function within the multiplayer-focused Commander format, utilizing the 'goad' mechanic to influence combat between opponents while providing a defensive buffer for the caster.
The artwork for the card was illustrated by Wisnutanu, who captured the sinister, parasitic essence of the enchantment. The design focuses on the visual representation of magical corruption, emphasizing the volatile nature of forcing creatures to attack. Upon its release, it was recognized by the player community as an efficient political tool in Commander decks that favor disruption and battlefield manipulation.
