Provenance

Where it came from

Power Sink was originally introduced in the Alpha edition of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, designed by Richard Garfield as a staple blue control card. It was intended to provide players with a reactive tool to counter spells by forcing an opponent to pay additional mana, embodying the strategic, resource-management focus of early Magic gameplay.

The version included in the 1997 Pro Tour Collector Set was part of a retrospective box designed to commemorate the decks used by the top eight finalists of the first Pro Tour in New York. While these cards are visually identical to their original counterparts, they feature a gold-bordered back, which identifies them as part of this specific promotional printing rather than the standard tournament-legal game cards.
