Provenance

Where it came from

Power Sink was originally issued as part of the 1994 Summer Magic set, also colloquially known as Edgar. This set was intended to be a corrected reprint of the Revised Edition, designed to fix various errors such as miscolored card borders and incorrect art attributions that had plagued earlier printings. However, the release itself became infamous for introducing a new series of printing errors, leading to the vast majority of the inventory being destroyed by Wizards of the Coast, which consequently made the surviving cards some of the rarest items in the game's history.

The card's design features the work of artist Christopher Rush, whose illustration captures the volatile, energy-draining nature of the spell. As a counter-magic staple from Magic's early era, the card was intended to provide blue players with a scaling interaction tool. While the original intent of the set was to create a polished, standardized product, the limited circulation of these cards has since shifted their reception from gameplay utility to a niche status as a significant historical artifact for collectors of early trading card game development.
