Punchcard // Punchcard

The Punchcard token was released as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for Magic: The Gathering, specifically featured within the accompanying Strixhaven Mystical Archive and token inserts in 2021. This item was designed to serve as a physical representation of an in-game mechanic, specifically for cards that interact with the 'Learn' ability or require players to keep track of supplemental game states. The aesthetic was developed by the Wizards of the Coast art team to mirror the prestigious, academic visual identity of Strixhaven University, utilizing an ink-and-parchment motif consistent with the set's magical collegiate theme.

The design draws heavily on the whimsical, retro-futuristic fantasy style prevalent throughout the Strixhaven set, emphasizing a blend of high-fantasy academia and practical utility. As a token card, it was received primarily as a functional tool for competitive and casual play, appreciated by collectors for its thematic integration into the overarching lore of the Silverquill, Prismari, Quandrix, Lorehold, and Witherbloom colleges. Its inclusion reflects the tradition of Wizards of the Coast providing dedicated tokens to reduce tracking clutter on the battlefield, making it a staple of the set's peripheral components.
