Relentless Assault

Relentless Assault was originally introduced in the 1999 set Mercadian Masques, representing a staple effect in Magic: The Gathering that grants an additional combat phase. The card was reprinted for the Commander Legends set in 2020, a release specifically designed to celebrate the popular Commander multiplayer format. By including this card in the set, Wizards of the Coast aimed to provide players with a powerful, classic engine for aggressive deck archetypes that rely on multiple combat turns to overwhelm opponents.

The artwork for this specific version was created by illustrator Svetlin Velinov, who has contributed extensively to the visual identity of the game over many years. Velinov’s design for this printing captures the high-fantasy intensity typical of the game's aesthetic, depicting a battlefield moment that emphasizes the card's mechanical function of forcing an extra offensive push. Upon its release in Commander Legends, the card was well-received by the player base as a reliable, functional reprint that fit perfectly into the set's focus on high-impact, multiplayer-friendly spells.
