Where it came from
Relentless Assault, card number 25 in the 1990 Marvel Universe Series 1 trading card set, was produced by Impel Marketing. This set marked a significant moment in the hobby, as it was the first official trading card release to focus comprehensively on the Marvel Comics universe, moving beyond simple comic book covers to highlight specific characters, powers, and pivotal scenes.
The artwork for this card was curated during a period when Marvel sought to expand its brand reach beyond traditional readership. The design features a bold, dynamic illustration intended to capture the intensity of combat, a common thematic hallmark for the set's action-oriented cards. Upon release, the series was met with immense popularity, effectively launching the 1990s comic card craze and setting the visual standard for subsequent trading card releases throughout the decade.
