Provenance

Where it came from

Restoration Angel was originally introduced in the 2012 expansion Avacyn Restored, designed as a powerful utility creature that emphasized the flicker mechanic—the ability to temporarily exile a permanent and return it to the battlefield to trigger enter-the-battlefield effects. The design sought to balance high-tempo mobility with defensive utility, allowing players to protect their other creatures from targeted removal while advancing their board state.

The Jumpstart 2022 printing features updated artwork by Jake Murray. Murray, known for his dynamic and atmospheric illustrative style, reimagined the angel with a focus on grace and ethereal light, moving away from the more overtly militaristic depictions of the character seen in earlier iterations. This version of the card was selected for the set to provide players with a versatile, high-rarity staple that fits into various white-aligned deck themes.
