Restoration Angel

Restoration Angel was released in May 2012 as part of the Avacyn Restored expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set focused on the narrative of the archangel Avacyn returning to the plane of Innistrad to combat encroaching darkness. As a mythic rare creature, the card was designed to represent the protective power of the archangel, utilizing a unique blink mechanic that allows players to exile and return another creature to the battlefield to dodge removal spells or trigger enter-the-battlefield effects.

The artwork was created by illustrator Johannes Voss, who sought to capture the ethereal, radiant aesthetic of Avacyn’s flight. Upon its release, the card became an immediate staple in competitive formats due to its high efficiency as a flash creature with flying. It is widely considered one of the most iconic white creatures in the game's history, frequently appearing in control and mid-range decks throughout its tenure in the Standard tournament circuit.
