Samite Healer

The Samite Healer, appearing as card number 38 in the Summer Magic set, represents a rare moment in the history of Magic: The Gathering. Produced in 1994, this set was an emergency reprint of the Revised Edition intended to correct numerous printing errors and card omissions. Due to a series of miscommunications and production failures at the printing facility, the vast majority of the run was destroyed, leaving a tiny fraction of the cards to enter limited circulation.

The artwork for the Samite Healer was rendered by artist Quinton Hoover, whose distinct, painterly style defined much of the early aesthetic of the game. In his depiction, Hoover leaned into a classic fantasy motif of ethereal, restorative light, perfectly capturing the white-mana essence of the healer archetype. While the card is mechanically identical to its Revised counterpart, its scarcity has transformed it into a cornerstone of high-end collecting, prized for its role as a tangible relic of the game's chaotic early growth.
