This common Snake token serves as a practical utility piece, representing the creatures generated by various spells and abilities during play. Provenance

Where it came from

The Snake token, numbered 8 in the Lorwyn Eclipsed Commander Tokens series, was produced by Wizards of the Coast to support specific gameplay mechanics within the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Tokens are non-collectible auxiliary cards used during play to represent creatures or objects created by the abilities of main-deck spells, specifically those originating from the Lorwyn-Shadowmoor block era, which emphasized tribal synergies and folkloric themes.

The visual design of these tokens follows the whimsical yet slightly melancholic aesthetic established by the Lorwyn art direction team. While token illustrations are often collaborative efforts within the studio's broader art department to ensure thematic consistency with the associated set, they are functional pieces designed to provide clear, immediate visual shorthand for players during matches. They remain popular among legacy collectors for their specific art style and role in maintaining the tactile continuity of the game's complex board states.
