Where it came from
The Snake token, numbered 20 in the Modern Horizons 3 set, was introduced by Wizards of the Coast in 2024 to support gameplay mechanics within the Modern Horizons expansion series. These sets are specifically designed to introduce new cards and tokens into the Modern format, often featuring direct-to-Modern content that references legacy mechanics and creature types. The token serves as a physical representation for cards that create Snake creatures, ensuring players can accurately track board states during competitive or casual play.
The visual identity of this token follows the established aesthetic guidelines for Magic: The Gathering tokens in the modern era, focusing on high-detail fantasy illustration. The design was crafted to align with the set's thematic emphasis on evolution and diverse creature types, providing a functional utility piece that matches the artistic quality of the cards found in the primary booster packs. As a standard inclusion in the set's token pool, it reflects the ongoing effort to provide comprehensive peripheral materials for contemporary trading card game expansion releases.
