Provenance

Where it came from

The Snake token, numbered 11 in the Midnight Hunt Commander series, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2021 to support gameplay for the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt expansion. These tokens serve as auxiliary markers for various effects in the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, specifically those generated by spells or abilities that create creature tokens during matches. As a utility piece, it is designed for functionality within the fast-paced environment of the Commander format.

The visual design of this token draws upon the gothic horror aesthetic intrinsic to the Innistrad plane. Illustrators for these sets are tasked with balancing clarity for players with the atmospheric, eerie tone of the world, often utilizing muted palettes and menacing creature designs to ensure the card feels cohesive with the broader card set. While tokens are produced in high volume to ensure accessibility for players, they are often sought by collectors who appreciate the consistent artistic direction maintained across the game's various releases.
