Sol Ring

The Sol Ring, first introduced in the Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, has become one of the most iconic artifacts in the game's history. This specific version, numbered 767, was released as part of the 2024 Magic: The Gathering Fallout expansion, a collaboration that brought the post-apocalyptic aesthetic of the video game series into the trading card game. The card is designed to mimic the interface and visual style of the Pip-Boy, the wearable computer central to the Fallout franchise, integrating the classic gameplay utility of the Sol Ring with the distinct retro-futuristic iconography of the game world.

The artistic direction for the Fallout-themed Sol Ring was curated by Wizards of the Coast in partnership with Bethesda Softworks to ensure the card resonated with both longtime Magic players and the dedicated Fallout fan base. The design focuses on the recognizable yellow and black color palette and rounded monitor aesthetic synonymous with the Vault-Tec corporation. Upon its release, the card was well-received by collectors who appreciated the thematic consistency, serving as a functional staple in the Commander format while acting as a tangible piece of crossover memorabilia.
