Sol Ring

The Sol Ring from the 1994 Summer Magic set, also known as the Edgar set, occupies a legendary position in the history of Magic: The Gathering. Produced as a corrective reprint for the original Revised Edition to address errors in color correction and misprinted card names, this extremely limited print run was largely destroyed after being deemed substandard by Wizards of the Coast. The few copies that escaped the recall are considered some of the rarest and most sought-after artifacts in the game's history.

The artwork for this iteration was rendered by Mark Tedin, who established the iconic visual language of the card early in the game's development. Tedin designed the artifact to feel ancient and ethereal, emphasizing its role as a fundamental source of mana. His depiction has since become the definitive visual representation of the card, and because the Summer Magic version features distinct color saturation and a unique printing signature compared to other sets, it is prized by archivists for its role as a bridge between the game's experimental infancy and its formalization.
