Provenance

Where it came from

The Spirit token, numbered 21 in the Commander 2021 token set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in April 2021 as part of the ancillary content for the Commander 2021 expansion. These tokens were included within the five preconstructed decks themed around the Strixhaven: School of Mages setting, designed to provide physical representation for creature abilities generated by spells and permanents during gameplay.

The artwork for this specific token was commissioned to align with the visual identity of the Prismari and Silverquill colleges of the Strixhaven plane. Like other tokens in this release, the design emphasizes the ethereal nature of the Spirit creature type, utilizing the established aesthetic language of Magic: The Gathering to ensure clarity for players while maintaining the high artistic standard expected of modern card illustrations.
