Where it came from
The Marvel Super Heroes Tokens were released during the mid-1990s, a period when the popularity of collectible trading cards and novelty items was at an all-time high within the comic book industry. Issued as part of a promotional campaign often tied to snack food packaging or specialized vending machines, these tokens served as a budget-friendly way for fans to engage with the Marvel roster outside of traditional paper cards.
The design of the Squirrel token, numbered 14 in the set, features a simplified, character-focused aesthetic intended to appeal to younger collectors and comic enthusiasts. While the artist for this specific token remains uncredited in public archives, the set as a whole reflects the house style of Marvel in the mid-90s, characterized by bold lines and straightforward character portraits that were easily recognizable on a small, circular surface.
