Provenance

Where it came from

The Squirrel token from the Unsanctioned set was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2020 as part of a standalone boxed experience designed for casual, silver-bordered gameplay. Unsanctioned functioned as a curated draft environment, bringing together elements from previous 'Un-' sets and introducing new, humorous card designs to encourage lighthearted, social play.

The illustration features a stylized, whimsical approach consistent with the playful tone of the Unsanctioned expansion. While individual artists for token cards are rarely credited in the same manner as mainline set cards, the design follows the established visual language of Magic: The Gathering creature tokens, providing a clear and functional representation of the Squirrel creature type for use during games.
