Provenance

Where it came from

The Squirrel token was released in 1998 as part of the Unglued expansion, the first silver-bordered set produced by Wizards of the Coast for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Designed for casual play, the set prioritized humor and subverting standard rules, providing tokens for effects that generated creature copies or summonings during gameplay.

The artwork for this token was created by Brian Snoddy, who contributed to the whimsical and slightly offbeat aesthetic characteristic of the Unglued set. These tokens were widely received by the community as a charming and practical addition to the game, establishing the tradition of including dedicated creature tokens in subsequent Magic: The Gathering sets.
