Swamp

The 1997 World Championship Decks were a unique product line released by Wizards of the Coast to allow players to replicate the experience of playing with the exact card lists used by top-tier competitors at the World Championship. The decks were printed with distinct gold-bordered backs and silver-foil signatures of the players on the face of the cards, ensuring they could not be mistaken for tournament-legal cards in official play. This particular Swamp hails from the deck piloted by Jakub Slemr, the 1997 World Champion, and serves as a memento of a significant moment in the game's competitive history.

The art on this card maintains the classic aesthetic associated with the era's basic lands, designed to immerse players in the dark, marshy atmosphere characteristic of the game's color identity. By including these specific deck lists in a mass-market format, the designers aimed to provide both a pedagogical tool for aspiring players and a collectible retrospective for fans of the world stage. The reception was largely positive, as it offered an accessible entry point into high-level competitive strategies that were previously difficult to emulate.
