Where it came from
Together Forever was released in 2024 as part of the Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond: Final Fantasy set, which integrated the iconic characters and themes of the long-running Square Enix role-playing franchise into the card game. The card draws its aesthetic and narrative inspiration from Final Fantasy VII, specifically depicting the enduring bond between Cloud Strife and Aerith Gainsborough. This set was designed to bridge the gap between traditional tabletop strategy and the rich, emotive lore of the video game series, aiming to capture the essence of these characters' collaborative spirit in a competitive format.
The art style emphasizes the cinematic quality associated with Final Fantasy, utilizing a composition that highlights the connection between the two figures. It was received by the community as a poignant homage to one of gaming's most recognized narrative arcs. The design mechanics focus on protection and resilience, reflecting the protective themes inherent in the source material, and it serves as a collectible centerpiece for players who appreciate the intersection of high-fantasy gaming systems and classic video game storytelling.
