Where it came from
Torens, Fist of the Angels was released in 2021 as part of the Innistrad: Crimson Vow set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The character is depicted as a devout protector within the gothic horror-themed world of Innistrad, specifically representing the human forces rallying against the encroaching vampire threats of the set. The card was designed as a rare creature card, utilizing mechanics that generate tokens to emphasize the character's role as a leader of the masses.
The illustrative work for this version was provided by artist Volkan Baga, who is known for his atmospheric and detail-oriented approach to fantasy art. Baga’s design captures the character’s militant piety and regal stance, intended to evoke a sense of hope and resilience amidst the dark, decaying aesthetic of the Crimson Vow expansion. The promo version, marked by its unique set symbol and collector number, was distributed through official organized play channels to provide players with an aesthetically distinct variant of the card.
