Where it came from
Tormenting Voice first appeared in the Khans of Tarkir expansion in 2014, designed as a foundational red card-draw spell. The card reflects the mechanical philosophy of 'rummaging'—discarding a card as an additional cost to draw two new ones—which allows players to filter their hands in the fast-paced environment of Magic: The Gathering. It serves as a staple utility piece for red decks that need to trade away redundant lands or late-game dead weight for fresh tactical options.
The version from Jumpstart 2022 features updated, stylized artwork that aligns with the set's mandate to showcase vibrant, thematic illustrations across disparate Magic concepts. By design, the art emphasizes the visceral, chaotic nature of the spell's namesake, capturing the flavor of a character overwhelmed by inner compulsion. The set itself was curated to provide a distinct, pack-based play experience, ensuring this specific printing reaches a wide audience of both casual players and collectors seeking unique visual variants.
