Provenance

Where it came from

Training Grounds was originally introduced in the 2010 Rise of the Eldrazi set as a card designed to reduce the activation costs of creature abilities. Its inclusion in March of the Machine: The Aftermath—a micro-set intended to wrap up the narrative threads of the Phyrexian invasion—served as a functional reprint, allowing the card to reach a wider audience and re-enter the Standard-legal card pool in a new, modern frame.

The updated artwork for this version was provided by A. M. Sartor. Moving away from the original Eldrazi-themed aesthetic, the artist leaned into a vibrant, lush visual style that emphasizes the growth and development of the multiverse following the cataclysmic events of the Phyrexian conflict. The design aims to capture the serene rebuilding phase of the game world, providing a aesthetic contrast to the darker themes prevalent in the preceding expansion.
