What it does
Unpredictable as the sea itself, Water Elementals shift without warning from tranquility to tempest. Capricious and fickle, they flow restlessly from one shape to another, expressing their moods with their physical forms.

Where it came from
The Water Elemental from the Summer Magic set, colloquially known as the Edgar set, occupies a unique place in the history of Magic: The Gathering. Produced in 1994, this set was an unauthorized print run released by Wizards of the Coast for distribution in the Philippines. The cards were intended to be identical to the Revised Edition, but the print process resulted in distinctively vibrant, saturated colors and different card stock that set them apart from standard domestic releases.
The artwork for the Water Elemental was originally created by Quinton Hoover for the Alpha set, reflecting the high-fantasy aesthetic that defined the game's early years. Hoover's style, characterized by fluid lines and a sense of movement, was highly regarded by players at the time. When the Summer Magic set emerged, it was initially viewed as an error-filled curiosity, but it has since been elevated to a legendary status among collectors due to its extreme scarcity and the specific, anomalous printing characteristics that differentiate it from the wider Revised printings.
