Whispersilk Cloak

Whispersilk Cloak was introduced in the Darksteel expansion, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2004. As an artifact equipment card, it embodies the set's central theme of metal-infused magic and the growing importance of the equipment mechanic, which had been debuted just one year prior in the Mirrodin block. It was designed to provide creatures with a powerful combination of evasion through shroud and unblockability, reflecting the treacherous and metallic nature of the Mirrodin plane.

The card’s striking illustration was created by artist Greg Staples. His work captures the ethereal and elusive quality of the item, depicting a garment that seems to phase out of reality, consistent with its mechanical function of protecting the wearer while making them impossible to intercept. Upon its release, it became a staple in casual formats and Commander, valued by players for its ability to turn almost any creature into a difficult-to-remove threat.
