Where it came from
The Wood Elves card originates from the 1999 Starter Set for the Star Wars Customizable Card Game, produced by Decipher, Inc. Released during the height of the game's popularity, this set was designed to introduce new players to the mechanics and factions of the Star Wars universe, though 'Wood Elves' itself represents a thematic outlier often associated with generic fantasy tropes incorporated into the expansion’s broader card pool. The design sought to maintain the visual aesthetic of the Lucasfilm archives while integrating gameplay-specific traits that defined the late-nineties collectible card game boom.
The art and layout were curated by the Decipher creative team to ensure consistency with the established brand guidelines of the era. Much of the card imagery from the 1999 Starter series was sourced from promotional photography or concept art archives, aimed at providing a cohesive experience for players as they built their first decks. While the card is not a centerpiece of competitive play, it remains a nostalgic artifact for enthusiasts of late-twentieth-century card design and the period of rapid expansion in hobby gaming.
