Wood Elves

The Wood Elves card was originally printed in the Portal set in 1997 and was included in the Duel Decks Anthology: Elves vs. Goblins in 2014. This anthology was released by Wizards of the Coast to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Duel Decks series, gathering the first four iterations of the popular product line into a single, cohesive collection. The inclusion of Wood Elves served to reinforce the green-aligned ramp strategy central to the Elf tribal identity, providing players with an efficient way to search for forest cards and accelerate their mana development during the early game.

The art for this specific printing, created by artist Glen Angus, leans into the classic fantasy aesthetic that defined the mid-90s Magic: The Gathering era. Angus designed the illustration to evoke a sense of woodland stealth and organic connection to the forest, utilizing earthy tones and fluid, graceful lines to capture the creature's swift nature. Upon its release in the anthology, the card was well-received by players for its utility in Commander and casual formats, standing as a staple inclusion for decks relying on green mana acceleration.
