Where it came from
Zimone's Hypothesis was released in 2024 as part of the Duskmourn: House of Horror Commander set, a collection themed around 1980s-inspired horror tropes and haunted house aesthetics. As a card within the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem, it was designed to support the specific mechanics of the Jump Scare! preconstructed deck, focusing on themes of surprise and resource manipulation common to the Simic color identity in modern card design.
The card features artwork by artist Jason A. Engle, who has contributed extensively to the visual identity of Magic: The Gathering. His illustration for this piece emphasizes the eerie, transitional nature of the Duskmourn setting, utilizing the vibrant yet unsettling color palette established for this plane. Within the community, the card is recognized for its utility in Commander play, specifically for its synergy with cards that reward players for interacting with their own library and creatures.
