Goethe's sammtliche werke : vollftandige ausgabe in zehn banden

This ten-volume set of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's complete works was produced in the mid-19th century, reflecting the era's widespread cultural imperative to preserve and organize the German literary canon. These editions were intended to serve as comprehensive domestic libraries, catering to the growing middle-class appetite for authoritative, standardized versions of Goethe's poetry, dramas, and philosophical prose following the author's death in 1832.

The publication follows the conventions of 19th-century German editorial traditions, which prioritized legible typography and sturdy, functional bindings suitable for academic and personal reference. While specific design credits for this particular set are often lost to the anonymous nature of mid-century commercial publishing, these volumes were widely received as standard repositories of the Weimar Classicism movement, establishing the definitive structure of Goethe’s collected works for generations of readers.
