The Complete Poetical Works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge: Including Poems and Versions of Poems Now Published for the First Time

This collection, edited by Ernest Hartley Coleridge and published by Oxford University Press in 1912, represents the first comprehensive, scholarly attempt to consolidate the poetical canon of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. It was compiled to address the long-standing fragmentation of the poet's work, incorporating previously unpublished manuscripts and revisions that had remained in private family archives. The editorial effort was intended to provide a definitive resource for Victorian and Edwardian literary scholars, seeking to establish a rigorous, chronological text that honored the poet's complex legacy.

The design and editorial philosophy reflect the high standards of the Oxford standard authors series of the early 20th century, which aimed to make canonical literature accessible in durable, readable editions. Ernest Hartley Coleridge, the poet's grandson, applied a meticulous academic approach to the collation of these works. Upon its release, the volume was lauded for its scholarly integrity and for illuminating the evolution of Coleridge’s verse, particularly his transition from early Romantic idealism to his more introspective and fragmented later periods.
