The Complete Poetical Works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge: Including Poems and Versions of Poems Now Published for the First Time ; in Two Volumes. Dramatic works and appendices

This collection, edited by Ernest Hartley Coleridge and published by Oxford at the Clarendon Press in 1912, represents a landmark effort in Coleridgean scholarship. By the early twentieth century, the scattered nature of the poet's manuscripts and the existence of many unpublished drafts necessitated a definitive, scholarly gathering of his life's work. The project was intended to serve as the standard authoritative edition, meticulously organizing the poems and dramatic works while providing comprehensive textual notes that allowed scholars to trace the evolution of Coleridge's verses from their earliest versions to their final printed states.

Ernest Hartley Coleridge, the poet's grandson, devoted years to this compilation, aiming to rectify the inconsistencies found in previous nineteenth-century editions. His design for the volumes emphasized accessibility for academic study, pairing the poetry with extensive appendices that documented variant readings and forgotten fragments. Upon its release, the set was widely praised by the literary community for its rigor and for finally offering a cohesive view of the author's dramatic and lyrical contributions, solidifying the text's role as an essential reference for students of Romanticism for decades to follow.
