Chant Grégorien

Released in 1980, this recording of Gregorian chant by the Chorale Paroissiale de Saint-Honoré-les-Bains serves as a representative example of the niche liturgical music scene in rural France during the late 20th century. Produced by Le Kiosque d'Orphée, a label known for its dedication to private pressings and regional documentation, the album captures the traditional vocal output of a local church choir at a time when such recordings were often commissioned for parishioners or historical preservation rather than commercial mass-market distribution.

The label, Le Kiosque d'Orphée, holds a unique place in French discography for documenting the creative and religious life of smaller communities that would otherwise go unrecorded. By choosing to release these chants, the label emphasized authenticity and the preservation of sacred musical practices. The design reflects the minimalist aesthetic of the era’s private pressings, focusing on functional documentation of the choir’s repertoire and provenance rather than elaborate art direction, ultimately serving as an archival record of the liturgical landscape in Saint-Honoré-les-Bains.
