Chant Grégorien: Les Vêpres Du Dimanche / Les Complies

Recorded in the mid-20th century, this pressing features the Chœur des Moines de l'Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Solesmes under the direction of Dom Joseph Gajard. The Solesmes monks are globally recognized for their dedication to the restoration of Gregorian chant, utilizing the semiological methods established by Dom André Mocquereau. This particular recording captures the liturgical richness of Sunday Vespers and Compline, representing the community's commitment to maintaining authentic monastic musical traditions within the post-war liturgical revival.

The IPG label was instrumental in documenting the Solesmes repertoire, providing a standardized sonic reference for these ancient modal melodies. The design often reflects the austerity of the Benedictine life, favoring understated covers that emphasize the spiritual gravity of the plainchant. At the time of its release, the recording was highly regarded by liturgical scholars and musicologists for its rhythmic precision and the collective discipline of the choir, which set a benchmark for the performance of Gregorian chant in the twentieth century.
