Chant Grégorien - Le Temps Du Carême

Released in 1988, this recording of Gregorian chant for the season of Lent was produced by the Chœur Grégorien de Nantes under the direction of Maurice Tillie. The album serves as a devotional resource, capturing the meditative, monophonic vocal traditions that have defined Catholic liturgical music for centuries. By the late 1980s, there was a resurgence of interest in historical sacred music, and local choirs across France were increasingly documenting their specific regional interpretations of the chant repertoire for specialized audiences.

The production maintains a minimalist aesthetic, consistent with the solemn and austere nature of the Lenten period. As an independent release under the catalog number SF1 880701, the recording functions as an archival document of the Nantes ensemble's commitment to the preservation of plainchant. The design and delivery reflect a focus on liturgical fidelity rather than commercial appeal, aiming to provide a functional and atmospheric accompaniment to prayer and reflection.
