Chant Grégorien - Messe Et Office De Sainte Cécile

Released in 1978 on the IPG label, this recording of the Mass and Office of Saint Cecilia captures the liturgical traditions maintained by the Benedictine monks of the Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Solesmes. Under the direction of Dom Jean Claire, the choir was instrumental in the mid-20th-century revival and scholarly preservation of Gregorian chant, adhering to the semiological approach developed at the abbey to restore the authenticity of these ancient musical forms.

The recording emerged from the abbey's long-standing collaboration with specialized labels to document their vast repertoire of plainchant. Dom Jean Claire, a successor to the legendary Dom Joseph Gajard, emphasized the nuanced rhythmic fluidity inherent in the original neumatic notation. This particular release served to provide listeners with a meditative, historically rigorous experience of the liturgical feast of Saint Cecilia, the patron saint of musicians, reflecting the austere beauty of the Solesmes style that remains the gold standard for Gregorian interpretation.
