Chant Grégorien - Messes de l'Avent / Premier Et Deuxième Dimanches

The Chant Grégorien series featuring the Chœur des Moines de l'Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Solesmes was recorded as part of an enduring effort to preserve the authentic liturgical music of the Roman Catholic tradition. These recordings emerged from the Benedictine abbey in Solesmes, France, which has served as a global center for the study and restoration of Gregorian chant since the 19th century under the guidance of Dom Prosper Guéranger. The series was designed to capture the monophonic, melismatic prayer life of the monks, emphasizing the rhythmic precision and spiritual nuance that the abbey had painstakingly researched and reconstructed.

Dom Jean Claire, a long-serving choirmaster of Solesmes, directed these performances with a focus on liturgical fidelity rather than secular artifice. Released on the Festival Classique label, this particular entry captures the masses of the Advent season, a period defined by anticipation and solemnity. The recordings were received by musicologists and religious scholars as a definitive benchmark for vocal discipline and historical accuracy, cementing the abbey’s reputation as the primary authority on the interpretation of neumatic notation and traditional plainchant.
