Chant Grégorien - Pâques

Released in 1976 by the Art & Musique label, this recording features the monks of the Abbey of Fontgombault in France. The album was produced to capture the traditional Gregorian chant repertoire specific to the Easter liturgy, serving as a meditative and liturgical resource rather than a commercial pop endeavor. It emerged from the Benedictine tradition, which emphasizes the preservation of ancient musical forms as a core element of monastic life and communal prayer.

The design and production reflect the aesthetic of the Solesmes tradition, which has long been influential in the restoration and performance of Gregorian chant. The monks were guided by the rhythmic and modal principles standardized by the Abbey of Solesmes, aiming to present the chants with the clarity and solemnity required for their religious context. Upon its release, such recordings were generally well-received within circles of liturgical scholarship and monastic music enthusiasts, praised for their adherence to historical performance practices.
