Chant Grégorien - Pâques

Released in 1976 by the label Art & Musique, this recording captures the liturgical chants of the monks of the Abbey of Fontgombault. Located in the Indre department of France, this Benedictine monastery is renowned for its strict adherence to the traditional Solesmes method of Gregorian chant. The album was produced during a period when the abbey’s recordings were gaining international attention for their dedication to preserving the purity and rhythmic nuances of the Roman Rite, serving as an auditory bridge to the contemplative life of the monastic community.

The aesthetic of the packaging, typical of the Art & Musique catalog, focuses on a minimalist presentation that emphasizes the spiritual gravity of the Easter liturgy. The design relies on solemn, classical iconography to reflect the historical significance of the chants contained within the record. Upon its release, the recording was well-received among liturgical scholars and enthusiasts of sacred music for its clear, resonant production and the technical precision of the choir, solidifying the Abbey of Fontgombault's reputation as a standard-bearer for traditional choral music in the post-Vatican II era.
