Chants Et Rythmes Des Rituels Afro-cubains - Songs And Rhythms Of Afro-Cuban Rituals

This release features the ceremonial music of the Güiros de San Cristobál de Regla, a traditional ensemble from the Havana area deeply rooted in the Afro-Cuban religious traditions of Santería. The recording captures the intricate polyrhythmic percussion and liturgical vocal chants essential to the veneration of the Orishas, preserving sounds that have been passed down through generations within clandestine and communal ritual settings.

Released by the Maison des Cultures du Monde, a French institution dedicated to the documentation and preservation of global traditional arts, the album serves as an ethnomusicological resource. The production adheres to the organization's commitment to high-fidelity field recordings that provide context for the spiritual and cultural functions of the music, allowing listeners to experience the precise instrumentation and vocal call-and-response patterns characteristic of Regla's liturgical heritage.
