Where it came from
Laminated Denim was released in October 2022 as the twenty-first studio album by the Australian psychedelic rock band King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. The album emerged during a prolific period for the band, arriving shortly after the release of their album Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava. It is notable for its minimalist construction, consisting of two long-form tracks titled The Land Before Timeland and Hypertension, which incorporate elements from their previous experimental project, Made in Timeland.
The album's distinct visual identity features a blue denim-textured cover, reflecting the band's penchant for creative packaging and lo-fi aesthetics. Released on the band's independent KGLW label, the record is often categorized by fans as a companion piece to their experimental work, emphasizing rhythmic improvisation and progressive song structures. Upon its release, it was well-received by their dedicated fanbase for its adventurous departure from traditional song formats and its contribution to the band's rapid-fire output schedule during that year.
