Nils Holgersson - Wunderbare Reise Des Kleinen Nils Holgersson Mit Den Wildgänsen - Folge 9

This 1982 release on the Poly label adapts Selma Lagerlöf’s 1906 literary classic, The Wonderful Adventures of Nils. Originally commissioned by the National Teachers Association in Sweden as a geography reader for children, the story follows a young boy shrunk to a miniature size who travels across the country on the back of a goose. By the time this audio adaptation was produced, the narrative had become a cultural pillar of Nordic literature, celebrated for its blend of folklore and pedagogical intent.

The 1980s saw a surge in audio dramatizations of the story, heavily influenced by the popular 1980 animated series co-produced by Studio Pierrot and various European broadcasters. This specific record, part of a multi-volume series, utilized the iconic aesthetic of the era’s animation to reach a new generation of listeners. It was designed to provide an immersive, episodic storytelling experience, capturing the whimsical tone of the original text through German-language voice acting that emphasized the moral and environmental themes inherent in Lagerlöf’s prose.
