Nils Holgersson - Wunderbare Reise Des Kleinen Nils Holgersson Mit Den Wildgänsen - Folge 8

This record is an installment in a popular West German audio adaptation of Selma Lagerlöf’s 1906 literary classic, The Wonderful Adventures of Nils. The series was produced by the label Poly during the early 1980s, capitalizing on the intense international interest in the story following the 1980 animated series co-produced by Studio Pierrot and Taurus Film. These audio dramas were designed to bring European childhood classics to a younger generation, utilizing orchestral scores and voice acting to immerse children in the surreal journey of a boy transformed into a tomte.

The design of these releases typically featured vibrant, illustrative cover art that echoed the aesthetic of the contemporaneous television animation. While Lagerlöf’s original narrative was a pedagogical tool intended for Swedish school children, this specific audio iteration functioned as home entertainment. It was received as a staple of German youth media during the 1980s, reflecting a period where high-quality radio plays, known as Hörspiele, were a central pillar of domestic media culture.
